(GARY, Ind.) -- Actor Ed Asner was rushed to the hospital Tuesday during the middle of his one-man show in Gary, Indiana.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the 83-year-old Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actor was onstage performing FDR, his one-man show where he portrays former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, at Marquette Pavilion in Gary. Asner took the stage some 45 minutes late and struggled through the first 15 minutes of the performance, often forgetting lines and having trouble speaking. Medical personnel arrived at the pavilion and rushed Asner by ambulance to a local hospital.
In a statement to ABC News Radio, Asner's publicist said, "While performing his one-man show FDR in Gary, Indiana last night, Ed Asner had to be taken off stage due to exhaustion and is resting comfortably at a Chicago-area hospital and is expected to be released later today.”
Earlier in the day, the Mary Tyler Moore Show and Lou Grant actor seemed fine as he led an acting class at West Side Leadership Academy in Gary.
