Strange News: After Owner's DUI Arrest, Hamster Taken into "Protective Custody"
3:07PM October 23, 2012

A hamster got a police escort of sorts early Tuesday morning, after cops in Beaverton, Oregon arrested its owner on a DUI charge. OregonLive.com reports 27-year-old Nicole Huey was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence, when officers noticed Huey's only passenger was the hamster on her lap.

According to cops, Huey said she had nobody to care for the rodent once she's behind bars, so cops should "just kill it." Instead, three officers corralled the hamster into a makeshift container, and put it into protective custody at a local animal shelter overnight while its owner slept it off in a nearby jail.
