Samuel Adams Cream Stout - Week of 11/21/11

First brewed in 1991 as an addition to Boston Beer Company's year-round roster of beers, Samuel Adams Cream Stout is a classic beer style, and has really developed a cult-like following. Sam Adams calls this their "cappuccino of beers". Roasty, smooth and sweet, balancing body and sweetness, with the natural spiciness of grain and hand selected English hops. This is one of the few beers they brew that use roasted unmalted barley. This increases the beers body, gives it a roasty malt character and that rich, creamy head.
Technically a Milk or Sweet Stout, the style has its own mythology and lore. Back in the 18th Century, nursing mothers thought it was important to drunk down this stout to help them produce milk. In Asia, bathing a newborn in a milk stout is thought to have a beneficial effect on the complexion.
