Mama's Little Yella Pils - Week of May 2nd

Lawn mowing season has officially begun, so it's time to bust out a true lawnmower beer from Oskar Blues.  More on that in a minute.  Oskar Blues Brewery is probably best known for being one of the first to put quality craft beer in cans.  Cans? Sounds like blasphemy... but cans have a bad rap. In fact, beer stays fresher far longer in a can than it does in a glass bottle. There's no chance of light skunking the beer (the number one culprit of beer skunking - never store your beer where sunlight can hit it) and cans don't have bottle caps that can fail, letting air slowly enter the beer and that carbonation to leak out.  Add that to the convenience of carrying cans to the beach or pool, keeping them stacked in the fridge and the satisfaction of smashing those empties on your forehead, it's a wonder cans aren't more popular with the craft beer community. One might argue that cans are kind of trashy to drink from... but any good beer drinker knows that drinking beer out of the can or bottle is sacralige!  A quality beer needs to be poured into a clean, room temperature glass.  This allows a head to form, releasing the aromas and letting them reach your nose as you drink.  "But, Boris, I'm filling up my growler with this beer.  Why are you going on and on about cans and glasses, and what do you mean by lawnmower beer?!".  Fair enough.  Mama's Little Yella Pils is a very drinkable Pilsner. You'll notice the signature straw yellow Pilsnr color and a great floral hop aroma.  There's some citrusy hops in this and a little malt on the back end.  This is not bursting with flavor, but  is a true thirst-quencher. I like to call beers like this "Lawnmower Beers".  Perfect for refreshing yourself while tackling the back forty on a Sunday afternoon.  So put that growler on ice, make sure the blade is set high and enjoy.  Cheers!
